Sox Clinch- In Losing Fashion

The Sox lost another- but managed to clinch a playoff berth with a Texas loss. Boston's five game skid has been ugly to say the least, and the team may feel some backlash entering the post-season on cruise control. On a brighter note, for Red Sox Nation, Josh Beckett received three cortisone shots in his upper back. The ace of the Sox staff down-played any serious ailments but as any Sox fan can tell you- he hasn't had his best stuff as of late. Let's hope Beckett's playoff mettle is still in-tact.

The Late September Woes Continue...

The Sox lost another- falling 12-5 against the Blue Jays. With a 5.5 game lead over Texas in the wild card the playoff picture seems set, but are the sox capable of going deep into the post-season? The answer undoubtedly lies in the Becket & Lester, 1-2 combo. If these two aces bring the right stuff the offense just needs to manufacture a few runs and the ball game is won. The Sox offense does have to come to play however. The key here is to work counts, have good at-bats, and wear-down opposing pitching.

The second factor in this seasons playoff race is the competition, and yes I'm talking about the Yankees. The evil empire seems to be clicking on all cylinders with strong performances from newcomers like Phil Hughes and perennial All-Stars like Mariano Rivera. The key here is to get ahead and stay ahead. If the Sox are fortunate to meet the Yankees this post-season, they will need to bring their best, especially on the Hill.

A sweep in NY bad for morale?

The Red Sox offense looked dormant as they proceeded to get swept against the Yanks. The Sox looked nearly as bad against the lowly Royals losing two out of three in the series prior to the beating in the Bronx. But, the real question, with playoff baseball around the corner, is will these losses be negative to clubhouse morale?

Hunt for October

It's mid September and the MLB playoff race is heating up, kinda. The last two weeks of the regular season is similar to a presidential 'lame duck' period with most playoff spots seemingly decided. The only worth of these last few regular season games- are 'tune up' starts for some rehabbers (Dice-K), and playoff home field advantage.

Let's see who comes to play in October.
